Why I Wrote This Book
This Book Started With a Question
Why do so many survivors spend years believing something is wrong with them when, in reality, they were adapting to impossible circumstances?
For years, I carried shame about the things I had survived—the abuse, the addiction, the mental health struggles, the mistakes, and the ways survival changed me.
But the more I learned, healed, and rebuilt, the more I understood something important:
What happened to us may shape us. It does not define us.
I wrote this book for every woman who has ever wondered whether she was too damaged, too broken, or too far gone to rebuild her life.
You are not. And you never were.
Who This Book Is For

You feel misunderstood by people who have never lived through what you have.

You want to feel seen, understood, and less alone.
You do not need to recognize yourself in every part of this story for its message to belong to you. Take what supports you, move at your own pace, and leave room for your own experience.

A Note About the Content
I Was Never Broken includes discussions of abuse, trauma, addiction, mental health struggles, shame, and recovery. Please read at your own pace. Pause when you need to, seek support when it would help, and care for yourself in whatever way feels safest and most grounding. This book shares lived experience and personal insight. It is not a substitute for medical, mental-health, legal, or crisis support.
A Message for Survivors
You Were Never Broken
What happened to you matters.
The pain was real. The losses were real. The impact was real.
But your worth was never determined by what happened to you.
This book will not tell you that healing is easy. It will not offer empty positivity, quick fixes, or one correct way to rebuild.
What it will offer is honesty, understanding, and hope.
You were never broken.

A Note From Theresa
I wrote I Was Never Broken because I know how lonely rebuilding can feel—especially when encouragement is everywhere, but honest understanding and practical support are difficult to find.
I am not writing from a place above or outside this experience. I am writing as someone who has survived, struggled, learned, and continued rebuilding.
My hope is that these pages feel like the company of someone who understands: a steady voice beside you, reminding you that your story is not over and that you are allowed to begin again in your own way.
